Training "Company
Mental Health First Aider with Certificate

Training for
"Psychological First Aid in the Workplace"

The "mental health first aider" or "psychological first supervisor" is the first point of contact in companies, teams and groups when people lose their mental balance or are in a state of psychological emergency or have even had traumatic experiences.

Triggers can be crises in a professional context, such as chronic overwork, mobbing, escalation of conflicts or an acute reaction to an unexpected event such as dismissal, an accident or even an assault, but also private crises or conflicts such as financial worries, a separation or sick family members.

Dealing with those affected

When someone is physically injured, everyone knows that immediate action must be taken and usually knows what to do next.

With psychological "injuries" things are usually different – colleagues or friends look away, look condescendingly, or make comments like "It'll be okay" or even "Don't be such a baby."

Psychological disorders can limit everyday professional and private life just as much as physical disorders, so it is just as important to treat them early.

Psychischer Ersthelfer

Course of training

"Mental health first aiders" have an important role in the company – they can either be actively contacted by those affected as a central contact person, for example within the framework of company health management, or as first aiders in a specific situation.

Managers can also expand their knowledge here and keep a close eye on changing behavior among their employees and colleagues in their groups and teams.

In our seminars, you'll learn the basics of mental health disorders and their symptoms, as well as resources for dealing with stressed employees. You'll also receive guidance on further treatment options and emergency procedures.

Legal requirements

Since 2013, a so-called "Risk Assessment of Psychological Stress at Work" (PsychGB for short) has been required by law, in which potential traumatic events are identified and a support concept and an emergency plan are developed.

Under these conditions, after individual consultation, the accident insurer may be able to subsidise the training

However, employers are not (yet) obliged to train and appoint a so-called "psychological first aider".

In many cases, however, initial psychological support is helpful in providing timely and on-site support to people under stress – because the sooner you act, the higher the chances of dealing with the current stress in a healthy way and the higher the likelihood that those affected will subsequently seek professional help.

Content according to DGUV specifications (2 days)

The following content is taught theoretically during the training and practiced practically in small groups:

  • Introduction and clarification of terms:
Initial psychological care, potentially traumatic events, stress and strain reactions, psychotrauma (3 units)
  • Interventions:
Procedure and systematic approach to dealing with those affected, communication and conversation skills, dealing with those indirectly affected (9 teaching units)
  • Initial psychological support in the workplace:
Self-image, role and boundaries, self-protection, legal foundations (3 units)
  • Operational concept:
Company rescue chain, company aftercare concepts, work accident

Content according to specific loads
(1-2 days)

In this training course to become a "Psychological First Aider for Employers," you will learn the most important basics about the origin, progression, and main symptoms of the most common psychological disorders, as well as possible first aid and other treatment methods.

This training variant is aimed at companies or employers and industries where traumatic events are less likely, but psychological stress is increased due to other challenges such as in veterinary/medical practices, in nursing or in complaint management.

Even in everyday office life, above-average stress such as excessive workload, tight deadlines, working from home or even bullying can lead to long-term psychological disorders such as burnout, anxiety disorders or even phobias - the challenges here are the early detection and the offer of recommendations for action by the personnel department/HR, the company doctor, the works council or the relevant manager.

The content can be adapted to your individual requirements.
