Mental Health

Our mission: To actively shape mental health

Satisfaction, well-being, and performance don't just fall from the sky—especially during periods of high performance or as you get older, your body sends you clear signals that it needs extra attention and care.

Not only restful sleep, sufficient exercise, and important nutrients, but also good stress management are the foundations for the entire body's ability to regulate and regenerate properly.

The human brain has two functions:

It stores important information in the cerebral cortex with the aim of making the best possible predictions. In addition, the brain serves as the control center for all bodily systems, such as the respiratory system, cardiovascular system, and immune system.

But what happens when the brain, the most important organ in the human body, loses its natural balance?

Just like in the rest of the body, disturbances can occur in the brain that can lead to symptoms such as feeling overwhelmed, difficulty concentrating and remembering things, irritability, and even anxiety disorders or depression.

In addition, disturbed regulation of the brain can also lead to physical symptoms such as sleep disorders, muscle pain, chronic inflammatory processes, burnout, heart attack, stroke, and sudden hearing loss.

Maintaining and promoting mental health and preventing mental disorders therefore contributes to the following factors:

  • Cognitive flexibility and problem-solving skills
  • Powerful handling of change and uncertainty (VUCA)
  • Regulatory ability of mental and holistic bodily processes (homeostasis)
  • Better understanding of oneself and others

The results for employees, the entire team, managers, and the organization are:

  • Improved employee retention and recruitment
  • Fewer sick days due to mental health issues
  • Training in future soft skills and proactively shaping the future

Mental health –
a definition

What exactly does "uniform" mean? We understand our topic as follows:
Whether working in an office or physically on-site – we all need our minds to function well. The human brain is our most important resource and is not only responsible for mental activities, but also for maintaining the balance of the entire organism with all its interconnected regulatory systems, such as the respiratory system, the cardiovascular system, the hormonal and immune systems, and metabolism.

If the "software of our regulatory computer" malfunctions, many systems can no longer function correctly. Early signs of an imbalance can include dissatisfaction, inner restlessness, increased irritability, difficulty concentrating, or memory problems. Physical symptoms such as sleep disturbances, headaches, or muscle pain can also result from mental overload.

The House of Mental Health

Therefore, by mental health we understand not only cognitive performance and psychological stability, but also stable holistic health as well as general well-being, a balanced emotional world and the experience of motivation and meaning.

Promoting holistic health through sufficient exercise and a good diet is already firmly established in the minds of many people. It's no coincidence that there's a clear upward trend in organic labels, gym memberships, and preventative health courses.

But how can I improve my mental health?

Few people have a concrete answer to this question.
We at the academy spent a lot of time thinking about how we could illustrate our approaches in a clear model and summarized our ideas in the graphic on the right.

"The Foundation"
Lifelong learning about oneself:
To better understand needs, motives and values, and to be able to regulate the resulting emotions.

"The Windows"
New perspectives and options:
Developing new ways of perceiving, thinking, feeling and acting, and dealing with challenges in a better and healthier way.

"The roof"
Lifelong growth towards greater freedom:
Taking responsibility and self-efficacy, with a new attitude towards more flexibility and autonomy.

Future Work Skills

The world of work has changed dramatically in recent years – the Western world is currently transforming from a physically active industrial culture into a technology culture.

Most people currently earn their living with their minds – they use their brains as their greatest resource. Due to the rapid changes in the job market, even more and higher levels of mental ability will be required of us in the future.

According to expert estimates, in approximately 20-30 years, roughly 50% of our jobs will be replaced by robots and artificial intelligence. Robots are already being successfully used in surgery, transportation, surveillance, and around the home and garden.

In addition to digital skills, future work skills such as self-management, self-reflection, creativity, emotional intelligence, empathy and resilience are already highly sought after.

For employers, it is therefore a good investment to support employees in maintaining their health or even improving their mental performance.

This not only contributes to better overall health and therefore fewer sick days, but also to a lived appreciation and thus higher employee motivation and increased employer attractiveness.
